J. Lopez sits on the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, co-chairs the California Fire Safe Council Board of Directors, and is a member of the State Fire Marshal’s Wildfire Mitigation Advisory Committee. Lopez retired as assistant chief for the County of Los Angeles Fire Department Forestry Division after more than 33 years of service. His current work focuses on systematic analysis of existing, alternative, and emerging methodologies and techniques to protect communities, natural and cultural resources. Usgbc-LA recognized his public education accomplishments with the 2020 Resiliency Award.
