Green building leadership can help spark a more equitable, holistic approach to reducing California’s wildfire risk and associated impacts. In high fire risk zones, many of the same building practices that improve a structure’s environmental impact will also help them resist wildfire. Beyond the WUI, green building and landscaping strategies are needed to support the resilience of communities downwind from wildfire.
This presentation draws together leaders in fire defensive home and landscape assessments, design, construction, retrofits, and related policies. Attendees will learn why thinking “home first” is essential to wildfire defense in and beyond the WUI, where green builders can make an impact, and how green building best practices relate to LA’s wildfire resilience.
